He is, by all accounts, a big man with a big heart, a sharp wit, and a passionate love of Jesus Christ and His Holy Church. He will be missed in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, where he has served the last several years, and where he did some pretty amazing things to repair harm done to Christ's flock there. His new see will provide him with a pulpit from which to preach to all of America, and put him on the front lines of some of our day's most important cultural battles. Given his history, we can be sure that he will provide excellent leadership and help to reinvigorate the Church in New York, on the East Coast, and in the USA as a whole.Read his homily here.
